Summary: This quantitative study examined middle schools in New York City. Through factor analysis, they determined causal linnks between four variables (school leadership, academic expectations, teacher relationships, and school safety) and teacher turnover. Improvements in these four variables, independently, showed reduction in teacher turnover. Increases in school safety and academic expectations also showed increases in student achievement.
